By the time I was eighteen I was doing the daily bookkeeping for a restaurant in Manchester, Vermont. After a year I decided it was time for college and more knowledge in the accounting field. It was off to Burlington, Vermont to attend Champlain College. It was at Champlain that I earned an Associates in Science with my major in accounting and a minor in General Business. In 1997 I settled in Rutland, Vermont. I held a position in the Micro Business Department of the Bennington/Rutland Opportunity Council (BROC) and gained knowledge about starting a small business. My job was to help people write business plans and receive financing if needed. By 1999 I had become a sole proprietor and started Business Basics. After a few years of building my business I was ready for the next step. So in 2003, I joined the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and began testing for my certification. To maintain my certification I have to earn a set number of credits every three years. This allows me to stay current in the field which helps not only Business Basics, but my clients as well. By 2005 Business Basics had grown enough that it was time to incorporate. Now, after being in business for just over eight years my goal is to continue to broaden my knowledge and have the ability to bring more to my clients.
